Letters to the Rainbow Bridge

Our Letters to the Rainbow Bridge post box offers a gentle way to put those thoughts and feelings into words.

You can write a letter to your pet and place it in our post box whenever you feel ready. There is no right or wrong thing to write, and your letter can be as long or as short as you like.

You may want to share a special memory, tell them how life has been since they died, thank them for the happiness they brought into your life, or simply tell them how much they are still loved and missed.

Helping people of all ages with grief

Writing can be a helpful way to process grief and express feelings that may be difficult to say aloud.

Taking the time to write a letter can create a quiet moment to reflect, remember and continue the special bond you shared with your pet.

Our post box is open to people of all ages, including children.

For many children, the death of a pet may be their first experience of bereavement. Writing or drawing a letter can give them a gentle and age-appropriate way to express their emotions, share memories, ask questions or say goodbye in their own way.

Children are welcome to write, draw pictures, decorate their letter or include anything that feels meaningful to them.

How to send your letter

You can send your letter to us in whichever way feels most comfortable:

  • Post it to Rainbow Bridge Pet Funerals
  • Bring it with you when you collect your pet’s ashes
  • Hand it to us when we deliver your pet’s ashes to your home
  • Visit us and place it directly into the Letters to the Rainbow Bridge post box

Your pet does not need to have been cared for by Rainbow Bridge, and it does not matter how recently or how long ago they died.

The post box is here for anyone who feels that writing may bring them some comfort.

There is no right or wrong way to grieve

Grief is different for everyone.

Some people may want to write soon after their pet dies, while others may not feel ready until months or even years later. Some may write one letter, while others may find comfort in writing more than once.

However you choose to remember your pet, your words have a place here.

Sometimes the things we wish we could still say are the hardest to carry.

If writing helps, we are here to give those words somewhere to go.
