Welcome to Rainbow Bridge Pet Funerals

We understand just how much our pets mean to us — they are family. As a husband-and-wife team, Michelle and James Bancroft, we run Rainbow Bridge Pet Funerals with a simple purpose: to provide compassionate, dignified care when it’s needed most. Whether you’re seeking pet cremation, pet euthanasia, pre-paid pet cremation planning, or pet loss support, you can be assured of understanding, respect, and professionalism at every step.

We are proud to be Bolton’s first and only APHA-approved pet crematorium, ensuring the highest standards of care, safety, and professionalism for every beloved pet entrusted to us, across Bolton, Greater Manchester, Lancashire, and the wider North West.

Having felt the heartbreak of losing our own pets, we truly understand the depth of that grief. It’s this lived experience that drives us to offer genuine compassion, reassurance, and support to families facing one of the most difficult goodbyes.

What sets us apart is our background in the funeral profession. This experience shapes the way we care for every pet, bringing a level of respect, attention, and personal service that truly honours the bond you shared.

Our values guide every moment of care — from the first phone call to the safe return of your pet’s ashes. These principles define who we are, what we stand for, and how we support families through one of the hardest days they will face.

Why We Created Rainbow Bridge

Milo’s Story

In 2024, we had to say goodbye to our beloved cat, Milo, following a short illness.

Like so many families, we found ourselves facing decisions we never wanted to make.

As Milo lay peacefully at the veterinary practice, Michelle was handed a brochure and asked to choose an urn. At a time when emotions were overwhelming, it felt like there was little guidance and very little support.

We then waited more than 10 days for Milo’s ashes to be returned.

When the call finally came, Michelle collected his ashes from a busy veterinary waiting room. They were handed over in a cardboard box, with nowhere private to sit, reflect or take a moment to compose herself before leaving.

The experience stayed with us.

We felt there had to be a more compassionate way to care for families who have lost a pet. A service that offered clear communication, dignity, support and somewhere peaceful for families to say goodbye and collect their pet’s ashes.

Today, every pet entrusted to us is cared for as if they were one of our own, because we know just how much they mean to the families who love them.

Brucie’s Story

In 2025, we faced another heartbreaking goodbye when it was time to say farewell to our beloved cat, Brucie.

Having learned from our experience with Milo, we chose home euthanasia so that Brucie could remain in the comfort and familiarity of home, surrounded by the people who loved him most.

However, the experience was not what we had hoped for.

Sedation was not used before the final injection and, when it was administered, Brucie appeared to react to it. Our daughter, Mya, was with him at the time, and that moment has stayed with her ever since.

The experience reinforced something we already believed — every pet deserves a peaceful and gentle passing, and every family deserves confidence in the care their pet receives.

That is why we insist that the veterinary professionals we work with use sedation before the final injection during home euthanasia appointments. Sedation allows pets to become relaxed and sleepy before the final stage, helping to create a calm and peaceful experience for both pets and their families.

Brucie’s story continues to influence the standards we set today, ensuring that every family receives the kind of care and support that we would want for our own.
